My most played game
By Jay Marriner, 16/06/2022
I've played games since about the age of 3; from The little mermaid 2 on PlayStation one to Cyberpunk on PC (both of which I'm sure I will post about in future).
One game, however, has stuck around in my life far longer than any other game and that is RuneScape.
I started playing this MMORPG around 2010 when I would make new accounts nearly every month until I eventually stuck with 2 accounts that I still play today. Despite playing over 10 years on this 1 game; I'm nowhere near close to "completing" the game - infact of the 28 skills in RuneScape I only have about 5 of them to the highest level available...
To be fair I have taken major breaks over the 10 plus years, sometimes spanning multiple years. Most RuneScape players will echo this, a behaviour not experienced by most gamers. One of the reasons I love RuneScape is the ease and comfortability. Whilst engrossing yourself into high octane, adrenaline fuelled experiences is fun - I sometimes find myself wanting to take a slower pace and engaging with content that requires less stressful thinking and instead opting for enjoyment. This is when I find myself being drawn back into the world of Geilinor.
Currently I've been working on the mining skill in RuneScape - something I've always wanted to complete but been scared off by due to the low experience rates found in the skill. However, lately being able to mine some rocks whilst programming personal projects has been an enjoyable experience and one that I have found hasn't distracted my workflow but has supplemented my need for "play" whilst also being productive!
I know I will inevitably take another break from RuneScape again once I feel I have achieved my goals but I also know that break will be met with another urge to play further down the road...
